My old pedalboard power supply finally gave up the ghost, so I needed a replacement fast, and ideally something that did a bit more than the last one. I landed on the Harley Benton PowerPlant PowerBank+ Mk2, and a few weeks in I’m genuinely impressed.
For anyone who doesn’t know it, this isn’t just a standard power brick, it’s a power bank as well. It’s got 8 standard 9V/500mA outputs, plus a ninth output you can switch between 9V, 12V, 15V and 18V (still 500mA), which covers the oddball pedals that want more voltage without needing a separate supply. There’s a USB-C port too, which I’ve been using to charge and power other USB gear off the board when needed. Total combined output tops out at 21.6W, so as long as you’re not running the whole board on hungry digital delays and reverbs you’ll be fine.
The bit that actually sold me is the built in battery, 92.5Wh, 25,000mAh, and it lasts forever. Right now it’s running my Boss TU-3 tuner, my Line 6 G30 wireless base station, my Tonex pedal (backup for when shit goes down), and a tablet I use for vocal reminders, and after 4 gigs it’s still showing 3 bars. You can even charge it back up while it’s still powering everything, so no dead battery panic mid-set.
Build quality feels solid for the money, it’s a small black brick, 707g, so it’s not adding much weight to the board bag. Three LEDs show the battery level, there’s automatic overload and short circuit protection, and the power switch needs a 5 second hold to turn on or off so it won’t switch off by accident mid gig. Harley Benton also throw in nine cables, including a couple of polarity reversal ones, so you’re not immediately having to buy extras. And it was cheap as chips, around €80 from Thomann.
It’s not marketed as fully isolated on every output the way some of the boutique supplies are, but there’s no mains buzz on my board at all. For what I paid I wasn’t expecting this level of flexibility. It’s done exactly what I needed, replaced a dead power supply, and given me the option to go fully wireless from the mains if I want to. Deffo recommended.
