Privacy

Last updated 20 September 2026.

This is a personal, non-commercial website. It sells nothing, has no contact form, no comments, no user accounts and no mailing list. It is deliberately built so that there is almost nothing to say here — but what there is, is set out honestly below.

The short version

  • No analytics. No Google Analytics, no pixels, no heatmaps, no visitor counter.
  • No advertising and no trackers of any kind.
  • No tracking cookies. The site sets none at all for ordinary visitors.
  • Fonts are the ones already on your own device. Nothing is fetched from Google Fonts or any other font service.
  • There is no way to register, log in, comment or subscribe.
  • Embedded videos are not loaded until you choose to play them.

Who is responsible

This site is run by Rick Kendall as a personal hobby website at www.rkendall.com. For the purposes of the UK/EU General Data Protection Regulation and Cyprus Law 125(I)/2018, that is the data controller.

Because this site has no contact form by design, there is no email address published here. If you need to reach me about anything in this policy, use whatever channel you already know me through.

What the server records

Like every website on the internet, the web server receives technical information each time a page is requested: your IP address, which page you asked for, the time, your browser’s user-agent string, and the page you came from if any. The hosting provider keeps these in standard server logs for a short period.

These logs exist so that the site can be kept secure and working — for example to identify an attack or diagnose an error. They are not analysed to build a picture of visitors, and they are not combined with anything else.

Legal basis: legitimate interests in operating a secure and functioning website (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).

Cookies

For an ordinary visitor reading this site, no cookies are set at all. There are no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no social media cookies, because none of those services are used.

The only cookies this site is capable of setting are WordPress’s own session cookies for a logged-in administrator — that is, me, when I am writing a post. These are strictly necessary for the site to function and are exempt from consent requirements. They are never set for visitors.

Because there is nothing that requires your consent, this site does not show a consent pop-up asking you to accept or reject anything. There is a short one-time notice telling you that no cookies are used; dismissing it is remembered in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie.

Embedded video

Some posts include video hosted on YouTube. A normal YouTube embed contacts Google’s servers the moment a page opens, before you have done anything, and can set third-party cookies.

That does not happen here. Embedded videos are replaced with a placeholder that lives entirely on this server, and the real YouTube player is only loaded if you press play. Until you do, no request is made to Google and no data about you reaches them — not even the video thumbnail, which would itself be a request to Google’s servers.

If you do press play, you are choosing to load content from YouTube. At that point YouTube’s own cookies and privacy policy apply, and the player is loaded from the youtube-nocookie.com domain, which limits what is stored. What happens after that is governed by Google’s privacy policy, not this one.

Legal basis: your consent, given by pressing play (Article 6(1)(a)).

Fonts and external resources

All typefaces used here are standard system fonts already installed on your device, so displaying a page requires no font download and shares your IP address with no font provider. No content delivery network, no external stylesheets and no third-party scripts are used.

What is not collected

This site does not collect your name, email address, postal address or telephone number, because there is nowhere to enter them. It does not profile you, does not use automated decision-making, and does not sell, rent, share or trade personal data with anyone. There is no mailing list to join and none is planned.

Links to other sites

Posts may link to other websites — manufacturers, forums, documentation, other people’s projects. Once you follow a link you are on someone else’s site, subject to their privacy practices, over which I have no control.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access to personal data held about you, and rights to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and data portability. In practice there is essentially nothing here to exercise them against: beyond short-lived server logs, this site holds no personal data about its visitors.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Cyprus this is the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection.

Changes to this policy

If the site ever gains something that actually processes personal data — a contact form, comments, a newsletter — this page will be updated before that goes live, and the date at the top will change.
